Words & Whispers

Words from the Lord during prayer and devotional journaling

    I hear the Lord say:

Sorrow can be heavy. Its weight is a burden and it drags at your soul. You feel lifeless and may feel that it will never end. There is a place for sorrow, a time for grieving, a period of mourning, which is a part of life’s journey. But it is not the whole journey. The journey of life also includes joy, happiness, laughter and peace. Because of My great love for you, you can experience joy after sorrow, peace after pain, and laughter after mourning. I, Jesus, came that you might have abundant life. There is a joy that flows from My throne, which tumbles and tickles, which springs up from a deep well of love and peace. This source of joy is never ending. It is available for the asking. It is offered readily and with wild abandon. This joy is yours, this joy is ours, this joy is forevermore.

I have come so that they may have life, life in its fullest measure. John 10:10 CJB

    I hear the Lord say:

On Valentine’s Day, people share tokens of their love with flowers, candy and gifts. Romance is celebrated with candlelight dinners and music. But I have a love for you that transcends human love. Although you love your family and friends deeply, the love I have for you is agape love. This love is greater and deeper and wider than human love. Agape love is sacrificial love, unconditional love and never-ending love. The best love story you can read is found in the Bible. The Old and New Testaments chronicle My love for My beloved children. A jealous love, a consuming love, a doting love, a joyful love; I rejoice over you with singing. My greatest gift to you is My Son, Jesus, who offered Himself up on a cross, Who conquered sin and death, and Who rose again in glory and victory. This gift is given to you with open arms; this gift of life, freedom, victory and power. On this day and every day, celebrate this gift of agape love with a grateful heart and a humble spirit. Your soul will be satisfied as you take and embrace this pure form of My love.

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. Zephaniah 3:17 NLT

    I hear the Lord say:

Many look to the Bible as a prescription for social reform. My Word is not a set of ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’. My Word is a light into the heart of humankind, to expose sin, to invite repentance and to offer forgiveness and grace. At this turning point, then the hearts of men and women are transformed. This transformation is ongoing. Abiding in Christ is a journey and it requires dedication and perseverance. Holy Spirit offers transforming power to say ‘no’ to the old life and to say ‘yes’ to Jesus. Old mindsets must be broken, new thought patterns must develop. Seeing the love of the Father brings you to a new place of being. Surrendering your agenda and allowing Me to guide you will bring you the sense of purpose you seek. I desire to lavish you with love, bless you with peace, and surround you with grace. I am willing to carry your burdens. Give them all to Me. Walk in the freedom that I offer. Breathe in the fullness of mercy I bestow. Live in the abundance of love that flows from Me to you each day.

We ourselves love now because He loved us first.
    I John 4:19 CJB

    I hear the Lord say:

I call to you “steady on.” When all around you is shaking ground, steady on. When the ocean waves rock you to and fro, steady on. When violent storms swirl around you, steady on. When gales and gusts pull at you, steady on. When clamor and strife rises to a crescendo, steady on. When wars and rumors of war rumble around the earth, steady on. When neighbor pits against neighbor, steady on. When life appears too much, steady on. My Word, My Light, My Life, My truth is your rock and firm foundation. My love is steadfast and true. My love conquers all. My heart grieves for the lost. I offer peace in the storm, joy in the morning, confidence in abiding and comfort in times of grieving. You can be ‘steady on’ as you abide in trust and love. You can look to Me, your loving Father, and to Jesus, your Savior for an eternal perspective and everlasting truth.

“Adonai is my Rock, my fortress and deliverer,my God, my Rock, in whom I find shelter,

my shield, the power that saves me, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:3 CJB

    I hear the Lord say:

Your path is just that – your path. It is unique, just as you are unique. Your path may have wobbles and bumps. Your path may have twists and turns. Your path may have valleys and mountains. Rest assured that your path is the right path when you follow Me. As the shepherd guides his sheep and leads them to green pastures, so the path you are on will lead you to springs of eternal life. Your path is a testimony to My goodness. Your path is a journey to greater trust, deeper faith and wider joy. Your journey is a day-by-day process of abiding and growing, learning and leaning, seeking and finding. Looking back, you can see how I guided you, cared for you and carried your burdens. This path we are on is full of adventure. Walk hand in hand with Me so that your journey is one of fulfillment and joy, contentment and peace, and stability and trust.

Adonai is my shepherd; I lack nothing. He has me lie down in grassy pastures, he leads me by quiet water, he restores my inner person. He guides me in right paths for the sake of his own name.

    Psalm 23: 1-3 CJB

You make me know the path of life;in your presence is unbounded joy,in your right hand eternal delight.

    Psalm 16:11 CJB

    I hear the Lord say:

My Word is Life. My Word is Breath. My Word is Fullness. My Word is Healing. My Word is Truth. My Word is Wholeness. My Word is Wisdom. My Word is Light.

Take time to reverently and expectantly read My Word. It brings revelation and inspiration. It brings restoration and renewal. Reading one verse, one chapter, then meditating, ‘chewing the cud’, reflecting, praising, pondering, communing with Me each day will make a difference in your walk with Me. I share My truth and wisdom with those who seek it. Seek to absorb My love, share My love and act out of love. The renewing of your mind is a journey of abiding with and in Me. Take My Hand and walk with Me.

Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16 ESV

    I hear the Lord say:

A warm fire is just the thing on a cold winter’s night. The heat and the glow warm both your heart and soul. A warm fire is comforting and welcome against winter’s chilly temperatures. A fire needs fuel to burn. A fire starts with kindling and paper, then can handle larger logs. People can use bellows to encourage the flames to grow. It must be tended and replenished with fresh wood regularly. Like the spirit within you, fan the flames of your love and devotion for Me. Don’t let the fire go out but keep it burning with regular time of reading Scripture, meditating on My Word and My truth, seeking My will and enjoying My provision. The flame of Holy Spirit is alive in you but it will only grow if you feed it, tend it, and maintain it. My love for you is like a giant bonfire, with flames lighting up the night sky, roaring with power and might, shining with intense heat! Take this torch, this clarion call, the gospel message, and share the Light of the Gospel with others. Your fire can spread and ignite the love of Jesus in others. A little spark to start, then a flame, growing to a roaring fire as you diligently feed the fire of your love for Me. Your fuel, which is fellowship with Me, will keep you burning brightly.

… I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you…
